They were downsizing, and had a number of computers that they were happy to have someone &#8211; like me &#8211; tote away.  I obtained an IBM RT PC and a couple of AT&amp;T 3B2 computers at the same time.  The IBM Series\/1 mini wouldn&#8217;t fit in my trunk &#8211; or my basement &#8211; by that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top MicroVAX II has a TK50 tape drive, the bottom one has a RX50 floppy drive.  Below that, with the two white switches, are a pair of Fujitsu SMD disk drives that were still functional last time I checked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"microvax3300\">MicroVAX 3300<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.computercollection.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5498-e1571258102905-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-697\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.computercollection.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5498-e1571258102905-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.computercollection.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5498-e1571258102905-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.computercollection.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5498-e1571258102905-1200x1600.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 85vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption>Digital Equipment MicroVAX 3400 6400R with TK70 tape drive and SCSI CD Drive<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This MicroVAX 3300 was obtained through the University of Wisconsin &#8220;SWAP&#8221; surplus program for a &#8220;song&#8221;.  It has a tag declaring its obsolescence which meshes nicely with the one from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.computercollection.net\/index.php\/pdp-11-family\/#RHB1120\">Hannes&#8217; PDP-11\/20<\/a>.  It has:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A KA640-BA CPU with a serial console and Ethernet<\/li><li>MS650-AA 8MB of memory<\/li><li>A KRQ50 special DEC CD-ROM interface (not connected)<\/li><li>A pair of RF30 150MB DSSI disks<\/li><li>An M3107 8 line asynchronous multiplexor (the unconnected multicolored ribbon cable)<\/li><li>A TK70 tape drive (partially obscured by the green tag)<\/li><li>A CMD Technology SCSI interface (connected to the CD drive on top.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The collection has a few MicroVAX machines, and also some unusual boards from an Intergraph\/VAX system that was housed at Wisconsin DOT (photos of the Intergraph boards have not yet been taken).
